As I was lying down at Mooloolaba Beach under the 35 degree heat, I noticed that there were a lot of people doing lots of different things. Some were swimming out into the ocean; kids were playing with the sand, parents playing beach cricket with their children while others were tanning.
As I lay onto my towel I noticed that there were a significant number of young girls who were covered up in clothing while tanning and swimming. It was at this point that I realised that there are so many young females who are body conscious and seemed to have very little to no self – esteem.
I popped up from where I was lying down and gave my body a quick check. My tan had already made me feel great about myself. I felt relaxed and confident. I felt confident because I knew I had put the time and effort into my own training and nutrition all year round. I never really questioned whether my body would be bikini ready for summer. I never really gave it much thought to be honest.
Being young is challenging. Add being a female into the equation and you have a whole lot of other problems that now exist. I think we are at an age where we need to be comfortable within our own skin. I’m not saying that it’s a prerequisite to have a firmly shaped butt but you should feel confident in being able to wear what you like at the beach whether it is a one or a two piece swim suit.
People often say that I don’t know what it feels like to carry extra body fat. Let’s not forget that I was once a tub myself. As a young female, I know what it feels like to be body conscious. Being involved in the Fitness industry has made me more conscious of the way I look and feel. I am on show all the time. For me, I practice what I preach. I don’t ask my clients to do something I haven’t done or wouldn't do. It’s even harder for me now to drop that extra bit of unwanted body fat.
I've learnt to work smarter and not harder at the gym and in the kitchen when preparing my meals. I cycle all my programs for 12 weeks and pay close attention to my nutrition. My training consists of 3 FIRE sessions and 2 ICE sessions. I put in the required time and effort to achieve my desired goals. Don’t get me wrong, just like you I can’t be bothered sometimes preparing my meals. It doesn't take me long to spark up as I know I have goals that need to be achieved.
I have a lot of young females come to me and tell me that they want to be bikini ready in 3 months time because summer is dawning upon us or because they are going away on an overseas trip. I understand their need to want to look great for a significant occasion. What I don’t understand is the time and effort they are willing to put in for the short period of time to achieve the body they have always wanted knowing that it will only last for a couple of weeks and if lucky, a couple of months.
Why be bikini ready for just a certain period of time when you can look great all year round?
What I can tell you is that: you don’t have kill yourself at the gym and you don’t have to cut out the foods you enjoy. You can incorporate the same training and nutrition methods that I use into your own lifestyle. You don’t need to hibernate or starve yourself to look your best.
